The gaps in politics
BY RAMIZ ALIA
The direction of change has not been easy. It has been carried out uphill, under tension. Within the limited space of the Republic of Albania, used under different economic and social conditions, and within a legal framework with arguments and behavior different from international standards, it cannot be denied that a large part of Albanians has been affected by a high and one-sided assessment. Some want to see things in the future with hope, others with suspicion, fear, and opposition.
But is this situation, which some call a crisis, really so? The truth is not to be hidden. If we analyze the developments of recent years, even when they run counter to the politics of the day, it becomes quite clear that we still have not reached a compromise acceptable to all. Only in this way can one move toward stability. Surely, if it is that stability with which the whole society can identify, many wounds will be healed, and perhaps even a crisis.
Today, amnestied without changes, it is difficult to overcome. In general, even those parts of society that continue to defend their own interests over others have been given the opportunity, forgetting that society as a whole is complex and diverse. The truth is not to be hidden. Some want to blacken the situation to the extreme; others portray it as far too optimistic. In both cases, I think balance is needed.
In these difficult months of transition, responsibility and a civic spirit are required. Without this, politics is emptied of its content and remains only noise.

The Albanian state continues to be detached and non-functional, contrary to the social base and the strength of circumstances. If this detachment continues, it will make solving problems more difficult. This is an intermediate observation from the report of the commission set up by parliament to shed light on the activity of the secret services and their links with officials and diplomats. At least in this period, the report finds alarming data on 81 active agents, on other people under investigation, and on suspected links even with ambassadors.
Instead of clarifying the structure of the state, an unclear network of responsibilities has been created. In a small country like Albania, the consequences of this situation are felt quickly and severely.
